Now that I look back at the movies, I realized, in story terms, the movies made no sense? whatsoever. However, this makes a ton of sense. Peter's parents played a key role in the Spidey mythos (directed to the individual who said the parents being in the movie made no sense), he actually fell for Gwen awhile before MJ ever showed her face, and yeah, the suit isn't as cool as Raimi's but it's cool.

They were also the main villains in the both Ultimate Avengers 1/2 that came out on DVD. Captain America wasn't one of the first Avengers, he appears later in the series as a way to revive the hero since his popularity? dropped after WWII. I do agree though that Hank and Janet should have been in the movie, or at least mentioned. But Black Widow and Hawkeye were also in the team, just not from the start.
