A friend suggested that the problem was that those cartridges were not air-tight and he was correct, so I messed around a little bit and got them filled up to about 80-90%. I 'm still afraid to use them though, but maybe I'll give them a try.
Can your chip extenders be? used with any 364 cartridge? (I guess they can)
Can I order them seperately? (it would add some much needed convenience!)

They're just terrible, no way to refill them without leaking ink even if you only put a few ml's in them. Don't buy empty refillable 364 cartridges, just stick with the original cartridges if you can refill them.

I got myself some empty refillable 364 cartridges but I have a bad feeling about them since it seems almost certain that at some point they? will start leaking ink (I never even knew they had a sponge that's only supposed to absorb a very few ml's of ink!!!).

They do tend to be a bit unpredictable in that they sporadically reject previously fine cartridges though. They can take enormous black cartridges though so are pretty cheap to run.
The D1660 however is pretty expensive to run at present. The HP 640c was a good little machine but us a little long in the tooth now and the recycled cartridges in circulation are starting to show their? age and are a little less reliable.

They pretty much have same printheads, only different default colour profiles. At first, it seemed the photos are pretty horrible, BUT then I found out if you add 25% brightness and 15% contrast to the photo before you print it, they come out so perfect that? you can even see the pixels if the digital photo has a small resolution. Most problems of ... By: RefreshCartridges. on 14 May 12, 10:50:03 Most problems of this nature are down to dried/blocked printhead. If cleans do not help I would recommend changing ink cartridges to be 100% certain that is not the cause. If the lack of black ink continues then I would recommend doing 3-4 more head cleans, but leave 20 minutes between each clean to avoid overheating your print head.
Failing that I would recommend looking up your local Epson service center to get it look at if it is in warranty or get a price for someone to take a look? at it.

Once the original inks ran out, I found a good supplier (I thought) and bought a pack of 4 (3 colour and 1 black) plus a free black. I put the black one in almost straight away and? it worked fine. Then yesterday fitted the 3 colour ones and got "cartridges not recognised". Sent 3 colour replacements free from supplier. Same issue. Your hint here worked brilliantly! Thanks a lot. If the cartridge has been accepted by the printer previously it seems unlikely anything could have changed electronically. If however this? doesn't help I would say its gonna be a give up and change the cartridge job sadly.

The chips themselves should give an? unlimited amount of prints and will continue long after the cartridge believes it is empty. I have heard rumours that the chips expire after a set period of time (like HP 363 chips do) but am yet to deal with this directly.

Hey, I'm looking for a new printer and found one that uses these 364 cartridges, Does the chip expire after a certain number of prints? (or date) to force you to buy new genuine cartridge? Does the chip extender bypass this?

Yeah the 564 and 564xl cartridges are identical so any un-chipped compatibles? will work with printers compatible with these as well.

Well, I did eventually find a way to fill them without leaking "so much". A friend suggested that the problem was that those cartridges were not air-tight and he was correct, so I messed around a little bit and got them filled up to about 80-90%. I 'm still afraid to use them though, but maybe I'll give them a try. Can your chip extenders be? used with any 364 cartridge? (I guess they can) Can I order them seperately? (it would add some much needed convenience!)

I am sorry to hear it. Without wishing to sound biased I would always recommend sticking to our own compatible? cartridges for use with these chip extenders. Unfortunately they are not designed to be refillable.

Just? coming back to confirm my initial fears regarding the refillable 364 cartridges I got. They're just terrible, no way to refill them without leaking ink even if you only put a few ml's in them. Don't buy empty refillable 364 cartridges, just stick with the original cartridges if you can refill them.

Specifically regarding the 364 chips, I honestly don't know yet, but official 363 chips have an expiring date, and I've already ordered a 364-ink All-in-one (should arrive any day now) so yes I am concerned for future use. I got myself some empty refillable 364 cartridges but I have a bad feeling about them since it seems almost certain that at some point they? will start leaking ink (I never even knew they had a sponge that's only supposed to absorb a very few ml's of ink!!!).

I wasn't aware the 364 chips had an expiring date on them. Have you had any experience of these not being recognised? Or are you? just concerned for the future? I would be interested to know.

what if the expiring date on the chip is reached? my hp 363 inks won't work after their expiring date! (of course I'm using hacked chips for that, but I can't find any hacked chips for 364? inks anywhere!)

hi, I'm about to buy this printer but I'm not so sure that all the chip thing is simple, how does that work ? First of all, I see the point of removing the chip from the original cartridge and placing it on the compatible cartridge, but I'm not sure if the chip will let you print hundred of? pages without telling you anything or without blocking the printer. What can you tell me about this printer ?
