The Stanford Prison Experiment, a dramatic simulation study of the psychology of imprisonment and one of the best known psychology experiments ever undertaken.Dr. Zimbardo takes us through the Stanford Prison Experiment, in which healthy college students are transformed into unstable prisoners and brutal prison guards within days by the power of the situation in which they found themselves.

By: petelebu. on 04 Feb 12, 17:10:25 i bet you if those people, guards and prisoners, where given marijuana , the agressions would of lasted as long as it takes from smoking it to getting the drug to the brain, so in other words, this is why marijuana is illegal, because it is a pacifist drug, and society? needs "normal" people to function.

Just because they were treating it like a game doesn't make things any better. Wouldn't it make it worse because if they were a criminal, it would be easier to justify. The point is? that good people can do bad things. And that's what happened.
Most would say this ... By: jbrown1169. on 28 Oct 11, 14:54:17 Most would say this wasn't ethical either. I don't think that lying about the students being criminals/guards would be that unethical, I consider it more of a control. It would keep those involved from thinking it was a big game, which was the overall problem, at least from the guards side. ? Eschelman likely wouldn't have decided to run "his own experiments" if he thought that these weren't just students like him. It would be a lie (much like a placebo) but a harmless one.

By: jbrown1169. on 15 Oct 11, 06:52:50 I think in order for this experiment to really work they should have told the "guards" that these were actual criminals (not murderers, keep it believable) and told the "inmates" that they were actual corrections officers. Because I think this became too much of a game, at least for the guards, especially Eschelman. He knew he could act this way and? nothing would happen because these weren't actual criminals, but students just like him. Interesting experiment, but not a good one.

They'll still try to rob us all blind, destroy the environment, and make our lives miserable for an extra buck and short term profits for their investors. They don't think long-term. Like I said, they saught profit from war with the Nazis and donated to their cause to take advantage of an evil entity. That's not to say all corporations are evil. Just many large multinational corporations seeking power over world governments' decisions/laws. By taking a group of students and then placing them into a different social roll, they tried to determine whether it would effect their physical and mental actions. I have since hunted down all of their music. Did an album with the song "Overboard" ever surface? It was after the Wrecreation days, and they had been on a hiatus or whatever for a while, but an mp3 of "Overboard" came out? with news an album was in the works.

Their albums are great too but once you saw them live, it really put them in perspective & you'd never hear them the same..

i bet you if those people, guards and prisoners, where given marijuana , the agressions would of lasted as long as it takes from smoking it to getting the drug to the brain, so in other words, this is why marijuana is illegal, because it is a pacifist drug, and society? needs "normal" people to function.
By: actualmadscientist. on 04 Feb 12, 03:58:42
you are quite correct, they should know better. such? foolishness for the sake of acceptance is just that: foolishness. that is why such people should be taught that proper ethics are more important than being part of a group. thus that is what i meant: blame the people for being idiots, but then teach them what is proper instead. that way, they will no longer get sucked into such situations.
By: thetruthisoutthere32. on 03 Feb 12, 22:19:35
- ? Wrong. Blame the individual who relinquished his own conscience for the experience of being accepted amongst a larger group.
By: actualmadscientist. on 30 Jan 12, 23:15:35
true, that is what i meant actually. such people are victims, for it is instead the greedy aristocrats whom are harming everything, while those whom are being victimized by them are mearly the puppets on thier strings. glad to see someone whom has taken the time to respond to me on this,? as people really need to talk more nowadays.
By: Raitox09. on 30 Jan 12, 17:52:12
No it doesnt. It shows that most of the people you think are evil are actually victims. If you check more of Zimbardos works you would see that the actual evil people are the people on the top of the hierarchy in the world. Psychopaths and manipulative bastards that are making good people suffer? and turning them into bad people.
By: actualmadscientist. on 20 Jan 12, 07:49:21
this just goes to show how there are no evil people in? the world, only ones whom are hurting people in ways that they are unaware of. terrible yes, but blame the situation, not the person.
