The bombs were ... By: dougalmac54. on 21 May 12, 21:19:25 The bombs were dropped to end the war and avoid the invasion of Japan. As a matter of historical reality, as opposed to your academic speculation, they accomplished exactly that outcome. You cry for the Japanese. Tell it Nanking, shanghai, and Peking! Tell it to the men who were tortured and died in the Bataan Death March, and Corregidor, and the countless war crimes and atrocities the Japanese military committed in WW2. Tell it to? the guys who died at Pearl Harbor.
Talk about a biased ... By: dougalmac54. on 21 May 12, 21:13:57 Talk about a biased view? Your head is crammed so far up your butt it's ridiculous. Japan's war lords kept the war going, plain and simple. They were clearly defeated and only fought on as a matter of idiotic pride and stupid? nationalism. and you defend them? What nonsense. They witnessed an entire city being obliterated, tens of thousands of civilian deaths, then failed to surrender? They reaped what they sowed, and failed to learn from Hiroshima. Their fault, not ours.

So it was, "we want to surrender, but we just can't and so we're going to continue the killing, so sorry."
And so Truman should have said, "So you want to surrender, but can't? Well that's good enough for me. We won't drop? the bomb then. We'll go with the greater amount of deaths and suffering by invading."
As an educated ... By: levierdragon. on 10 May 12, 10:43:37 As an educated American, I think the Japs had it easy. Only two atomic bombs were used. If I was Truman, I would have nuked Tokyo, Berlin, Moscow, Beijing and every single city in Japan, even after they surrender. How can we let such barbaric savages? go away so lightly?
Saying? that there were less Americans killed in Pearl Harbor is flawed. No. of people killed by the Japs in WW2 < No. of people Atomic bombs killed. Atomic bombs were the divine wrath of God. i.e. God's Justice? from USA.

By: muffincancel. on 06 May 12, 16:18:20 I think that the stubbornness? of the Japanese leaders and the way they attack US without warning (Pearl Harbour.) were the cause of the atomic bomb dropping and now some people call the Americans Killers. They just wanted to drop that bomb, twice.
When you see such a willingness to use the bomb, it makes you wish that all nations had nukes. Because so far in history, no nation has dared to nuke when they can get a nuke in return.

What a biased view! There were several signs that the japanese was about to surrender, more and more leaders? wanted to. Also if the surrender did not have to be unconditional its very likey they had surrendered. And even if it was unavoidable, you obliterate 100.000 people and then wait a whooping 72 hours before you do it again!? In a 7 year war... Yeah thats very generous!
When you also factor in that the US had gotten the red scare by this time, the whole mess starts to stink.

USSR had an overwhelming number there, show of force was needed to convince Stalin to "behave". Besides, Russians were preparing for a invasion of Japan. These considerations were as valid then as saving American lives.

To understand this you must understand, in the japanese religion,? its actually considered more honorable to die than to be defeated; therefore, we would've had to invade Japan's capital & kill countless citizens, in order for Japan to surrender. Japan intended to attach other countries, & knew if they did we might go to war to stop them. So they decided to attack us first at Pearl Harbor.

By: TravelinBand747. on 29 Mar 12, 13:07:58 I love the music to this song and the "theme" of paying tribute to Harry Truman is fine, especially in the aftermath of Watergate, but the lyrics are rather trite and silly. my big problem with ... By: KingRoanMoore. on 14 Dec 09, 12:47:43 my big problem with this movie is that it sounds like hoffman is doing an impression, you know? it sounds like he's imitating, and not being capote and just talking. its a great impersonation, and? he acts tremendous, but the voice itself is just a little off. i loved the movie, its incredible... but no one ever mentions that.

i don't really like ... By: nick4alex. on 26 Jun 07, 04:06:45 i don't really like the film very much and that was mainly due to facof capote's? very annoying voice..omg..i don't think i've ever heard a more stupid voice in my life.
yes i do know that the real capote spoke like that and i realise that he was gay as well...that doesn't bother me that he was gay..everyone has the right to like whatever they want...it's just that voice of his..oh that voice..he sounded like cartoon mouse begging for cheese..Oh God!!!
